Message from Portland Row for the Cure:
The 21st Portland Row for the Cure happens in less than a month. There are times when I wonder if it matters, then I talk to someone who is a survivor of breast cancer - or another cancer - and their stories inspire me to go on. And, I remember those who were not so lucky and didn't survive because we don't have enough answers yet.
This year Susan G. Komen Oregon and S.W. Washington began the initiative "Poder y Vida" (Power to Live). Poder y Vida is Komen's five-year project aimed at saving lives by increasing breast cancer screening rates and reducing late-stage breast cancer diagnoses among Latinas in Northwest Oregon. The number one factor in surviving breast cancer is early detection.--Thomas Bruner, CEO, Komen Oregon and SW Washington.

A very special Thank you
Scott Campbell from Waste Connections Community Relations came down to the lake this week. That is Scott in the picture (holding the bow of the Dianne II) along with many of the junior rowers. He presented VLC with a very generous donation toward our boat trailer project. Our club has had to borrow space on other clubs' boat trailers in order to attend regattas in the region. With this donation, we will be able to have our own trailer built. This will save our club: time in coordinating boat loading/unloading, money in rental fees, headaches in logistics, and allow our athletes more training time before regattas. Thank you Scott Campbell and Waste Connections!

Two Easy Ways to Support Vancouver Lake Crew:
1--Fred Meyer Rewards.
Link your Fred Meyer Rewards Card to VLC. When you sign in to view your points at the Fred Meyer website, navigate to the COMMUNITY REWARDS page and link your rewards card to Vancouver Lake Crew. If you don't already have a card, you may get a Rewards Card at the store or online, then register your account online.
If you are making a purchase from Amazon, you can make the same purchase through Amazon Smile. Visit www.smile.amazon.com, sign into your normal Amazon account, and under YOUR ACCOUNT information there will be a choice labeled CHANGE YOUR CHARITY. Make your charity Vancouver Lake Crew.
Thank you for taking the time to navigate through these websites to help Vancouver Lake Crew. You only have to do this one time, and all future purchases will mean a small donation to our club.
You may have noticed...
VLC is not just VLC anymore. Our current location has always been the Vancouver Aquatic Center, but until recently, we haven't been able to offer opportunities besides rowing. With the popularity of dragon boating, kayaking, and other water pursuits, you will see more references to the Vancouver Lake Aquatic Center or VLAC.
