National Learn To Row Day
7 June 2014
Every year on the first Saturday in June, rowing clubs all over the United States have a free Learn To Row Day. VLC will again be hosting LEARN TO ROW on 7 June. If you are curious, we encourage you to stop by the club on Vancouver Lake that day. Bring the whole family. Bring your friends. Wait till you see how much fun this is!
Vancouver Lake Crew has summer rowing for experienced and NON-EXPERIENCED rowers. There are 3 sessions during the summer--join one, two, or all three. The camps are run by young adults who have previously rowed at VLC. Great fun, exercise, and friendships happen every day. For more information, see our High School Summer Flyer.
This summer program at VLC is for students entering middle school in the fall. Like all our rowing programs it is for experienced and non-experienced rowers. We will teach you to row, then we will teach you to row better. Join one or more of the 3 summer sessions. For more information, see our Middle School Summer Flyer.
Summer Kids Camp
For 7-11 year olds, VLAC has nine one-week sessions of Summer Boating Camps where kids learn to row or paddle: canoes, kayaks, rowing shells, row boats, and dragon boats. These camps are run by young adults and high school rowers. Many past participants have had so much fun they come back for more than one session. Come on your own or bring a group of friends. The Summer Boating Camp Flyer is posted. It is time to start making plans. Hurrah!
The Adult (or masters) program operates year round on the lake. If you are new to the sport of rowing, the summer is an excellent time to take lessons. Now that the weather is improving and the daylight hours are longer, there are more opportunities to schedule lessons with Coach Alan. Call or email Alan Stewart to find out the spring/summer lesson schedule.
College rowers are invited to join the summer rowing at Vancouver Lake. Please see the High School Summer Flyer for the schedule.
You may have noticed...
VLC is not just VLC anymore. Our current location has always been the Vancouver Aquatic Center, but until recently, we haven't been able to offer opportunities besides rowing. With the popularity of dragon boating, kayaking, and other water pursuits, you will see more references to the Vancouver Lake Aquatic Center or VLAC.
UP at Vancouver Lake
The University of Portland Womens Rowing enjoyed a great week of water on Vancouver Lake. It was their spring break 10-14 March. On 15 March, they scrimmaged with Seattle University.
It was great to share our facilities, and we hope they join us again.
